dual shock 2 wont shock!

hey guys

i bought a new console, slim

and everything works fine except that the dual shock 2 controller wonto shock.

even though the vibrate is set to ON on no matter what game I try
it just wont respond

is there maybe a configuration mode I missed somewhere in the console setup?

anyone have any idea how to solve this? it happens on both controllers and everything is like 2 days old.

you do tend to get a bodged console and accesories every now and again.
