Hi guys/girls help needed please

Hi, i have just purchased a load of games for my pc, i also purchased a new USB game pad, but i cant seem to get it working with any of the games, ie Quake 4, Unreal 2, i have loaded the soft ware that comes with the game pad and set it ull up a ok, but it wont work on the games, any ideas would be great.

Let's start with the most simple questions.

1. Have you rebooted your computer after the install?

2. Can you find it in the control panel in windows?

3. Which version of Windows do you use?

If the usb game pad came with software does it allow you to map keyboard buttons to the game pad, that is in simpler terms, does it let you make one of the buttons on the game pad equal a button on the keyboard?

you might need to trick the games into using the game pad, if it isn't supported, by mapping the keyboard buttons used in the game to buttons on the game pad.

also btw is the game pad a saitek? because i have always had trouble with saitek game pads... grr
