How to Get The Guy to Take the snadwich!

I have done everything there is to do here. Kiew is out on her horse. I talked to Spike, took his book back, got the sandwich, fed the cat, got the key, When I go to give it to the guy, I can't do it. What else can I do. I was looking for a spot to set the sandwhich. I re-did the level several times thinking there was a specific order I had to get everything in. I went to my room. I went to lounge. I tried to talk with Amer. trainer. HELP!!!
