NCAA football 07 corrupted data on memory card playstation 2

I just got NCAA football 07, everytime I try to save it, it says memory card was removed during process. it is a 16 MB card. What causes this? What can I do to fix it? I can save other games without a problem and I have deleted many files so I have 15 MB of free space.
