| I've been playing guitar(mainly acoustic) for some time now and i never thought i had a good voice. So about a couple months ago i gave it a shot and it was pretty dissapointing and embaraasing but kept trying and i was pretty amazed how much better my strength, endurance, and tone control came over a short period of time. It's not great but its getting better everyday. But when im singing certain songs that call for more volume in whatever range, i cant hit it without my voice cracking or just completely giving out. notes that i can hit at a normal volume but not louder. Is this because i just started and i need to work on a stronger voice or does this just have to do with all that stuff i hear about being born with a cavity/palate or whatever that helps your voice? Any help is appreciated. |

If you wanna give volume, sing-in first. There are lots of routines you can sing before you actualy start your singing. Also try to control your breathing. Try breathing low, in stead of high. That helps you to open your voice more.
And final: The more you sing the more power your voice will get. Dont over do it, sing sing sing, and later you worry bout the volume.
Good luck! |

| But i'd like to say that, if you wanna improve yourself seriously on singing, don't try to do that on yourself. That's so dangerous for your voice =) maybe you can get help from a professional, that would be so better for health of your voice... |

Well i took lessons for 4 years, you know singing is not about tone or vibrato or even about volume. Its youre technique that makes your voice. So if you are really willing to sing good with all that, take lessons. If its just for you: dont over do it, give your voice a break after 15 minutes and see were it will go.
Good Luck! |

your'e never to young to take lessons. Technique is something you can lear from 12 up. I took lessons myself when I was 12. Tenique is fine now! |

@theartist
maybe you're right, and maybe the age depends on what kind of music would you like to sing. for example, i wrote 18-19 because i mean really detailed singing lessons, like mine. i started to took lessons on age 18 because i want to improve my voice for opera techniques. and i'm taking lessons for conservatory. i'm sure teachers would laugh if i were told them "i wanna took lessons for opera" when i was 12. that's why i said 18-19. even now, teacher's cannot say (i'm 18 by the way) that i'm a soprano or mezzo-soprano, 'cause my voice has just completed it's evolution...
anyway, i guess i could wrote what i want to tell you... |

| well i'm personally aiming to play my acoustic, sing songs, and make my own. I feel that although the notes are easily in my reach, i have bad pitch control which i assume just needs work, and the whole volume thing which isnt a huge deal to me right now. but lets say i wait another 2-3 years until im 18, im not going to kill my voice or anything? I am a reasonable person and i know when my voice is under stress. |

@ freak; your right on this one, an opera voice is difficuld to train when your under 18 (i'dd say 16).
But when I look at his question I think he should do it. If you dont want to do it: always sing some pratices before you start singing. And when you think you overdo it, stop and drink alot of tea. Warm water is relaxing for your voice.
@jor.pandolfo: When you sing while playing unplugged guitar, you should be able to fix/train your pitch control by doing it. Practise practise practise but dont overdo it! |

| thanks theartist. for some reason i want to give you a big hug, man or woman its all good. but i have defintely noticed that the guitar keeps me in tune in the same way another voice can. I sometimes laugh when i sing without any back up because everything has been stripped down it seems, but thats what practice is for. |
