Well, on numerous occasions I've heard that he's just a re-make of dracula... Alucard is just dracula spelt backwards and I think the makers of hellsing didn't want to be redundant and use dracula like in so many other anime.  |

Yeah, Vulcan1212 is right. Alucard is meant to be Dracula (from Bram Stoker's novel) and, going back farther in time, Vlad the Impaler.
At least, that's what Alucard has more or less said, in the Hellsing manga. I suppose the author could pull the rug out from under us, and have Alucard find out that he was wrong about his own past for all of these years. But that doesn't seem likely at this point!  |

| if you follow the manga, Alucard is DEFINITELY dracula. The latest manga (no. 9, Japanese version) has him regurgitating all the souls of people he killed, all the way back to the Turkish soldiers in 13th century!!! |
